AAP leader’s Phagwara house attacked in midnight firing

by TheReportingTimes

PHAGWARA, Nov 27— Two unidentified assailants fired a volley of shots at AAP leader Daljit Raju’s home in Darvesh village shortly after midnight on Thursday, leaving the neighbourhood on edge and prompting a multi-angle police investigation.

The firing began at 1.13 am, striking the upper floor of the house where Raju, coordinator of Yudh Nasheya Virudh Phagwara, was asleep with his family. “The sound woke me up. When I looked out, I saw two masked men firing at close range,” Raju said. The bullets shattered glass panels, though no one was injured.

CCTV footage captured the attackers arriving on a motorcycle with their faces covered. Before opening fire, one suspect threw four handwritten pages into the premises with the message “Kala Rana Group — 5 crore,” suggesting an extortion threat. Raju said he had “no personal enmity with anyone” and believed the act was carried out by criminal elements seeking to intimidate him.

Police recovered empty cartridges from the scene. Two SHOs arrived within minutes, followed by SP Madhvi Sharma and DSP Bharat Bhushan, who inspected the damage early in the morning. Lok Sabha MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal and Halka Incharge Harnoor Singh Maan later met the family.

A case has been registered under Sections 308(5), 61(2), 324(4), 111 of the BNS and the Arms Act at Satnampura police station. SSP Gaurav Toora said, “We are looking into extortion, gang rivalry and targeted intimidation as possible motives,” adding that teams were scanning CCTV footage from surrounding areas to identify the suspects.

Police have intensified patrols in and around the village as the hunt for the shooters continues.
