Mumbai, July 3— A 14-year-old boy, the son of a well-known television actor, allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a high-rise building in Kandivali following an argument with his mother over attending tuition classes, police said on Thursday.
The tragic incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday at a residential complex in Kandivali, where the actor resides on the 51st floor. The actor has appeared in several popular Gujarati and Hindi television serials.
According to officials at the Kandivali police station, the Class 9 student was reportedly reluctant to attend tuition when his mother insisted, leading to a heated exchange. “Following the argument, the boy stepped out of the house around 6 p.m., descended a couple of floors, and then jumped to his death,” a police officer said.
The boy’s mother was informed about the incident by another resident of the building. “We are trying to ascertain the exact floor from which the child jumped,” the officer added.
While no foul play is suspected at this stage, the police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and initiated an investigation.
Sources indicated that investigators may visit the boy’s school and tuition centre in the coming days to gather more details and understand any possible emotional or academic pressures.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the television community and the local neighbourhood, where the boy was known to be quiet and reserved. Counseling support is also expected to be offered to the family.
