After ED raids on I-PAC, TMC leaders removed from protest near Home Ministry

New Delhi, Jan 9: A protest by Trinamool Congress leaders against Enforcement Directorate raids on Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) ended with police removing several MPs, including Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra, from outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office on Thursday.

The TMC leaders had gathered at Kartavya Bhawan to protest what they described as political misuse of central agencies. Police action followed soon after the demonstration began.

Moitra accused the Home Minister of directing the police against elected representatives. “Shameless Amit Shah using Delhi Police to drag us away from peaceful protest at Home Ministry,” she wrote on X.

The party launched a scathing attack on the Centre, accusing it of undermining democratic norms. “Is this how dissent is silenced in your India?” the TMC asked in a social media post, alleging that Shah was “rattled” by Opposition resistance.

“First, the misuse of the ED, and now an attack on the peaceful dharna of our MPs,” the party said. “You may try to choke democracy, but Bengal will not be cowed.”

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said the developments reflected a pattern of institutional misuse. “Democracy is punished. Criminals are rewarded. Agencies are weaponised,” he said.

In a sharp political warning, Banerjee added, “Even if the rest of the country is forced to surrender, Bengal will resist,” asserting that the party would fight the Centre “tooth and nail”.

The ED raids on I-PAC have intensified the confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Opposition, with the TMC projecting the action as part of a broader campaign against dissenting voices.
