AI Guards SSC Exams

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi, June 16: In a sweeping overhaul of India’s public recruitment examination system, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has deployed an artificial intelligence-driven question paper generation model, aiming to eliminate leaks, human bias and delays. The technology, developed by Cubastion Consulting, has already been used during an SSC exam held on June 15—what officials described as a “milestone moment.”

“This marks a shift from traditional paper-setting to a secure, real-time digital model,” SSC Chairman S Gopalakrishnan said, underscoring the impact the move could have beyond the SSC. “It’s not just a technological upgrade—it’s a new way of ensuring trust.”

The AI-powered content engine is designed to draw questions in real-time from a pre-vetted and extensive question bank. According to the SSC, each exam is assembled dynamically and released only 15 minutes before candidates sit for the test. Until then, not even commission officials or administrators are allowed to preview the paper.

Security protocols built into the system include digital authentication, encryption, and digital signatures—ensuring that only authorised systems can decrypt and access the final paper. This approach has all but erased the possibility of question paper leaks or tampering, long-standing concerns in government recruitment exams.

“We’ve designed this as a zero-trust architecture,” said Cubastion CEO Ravi Kumar, explaining that the platform doesn’t assume any inherent trust even within internal systems. “Every device, every user must be verified to gain access. This guarantees complete transparency and accountability.”

Project Lead Deepanshu Sharma added that the model’s scalability can support not only SSC exams but also other national-level tests in the future. “What was once a fragmented and manual process is now streamlined into a fully automated, auditable system,” Sharma said.

Artificial intelligence also plays a vital role in eliminating duplication or question repetition. The platform filters and selects from a certified question pool to ensure that each candidate receives a balanced, error-free, and unique paper.

According to officials, the long-term vision includes a fully digitised, AI-backed recruitment ecosystem that ensures fairer evaluation, faster processing, and minimal human intervention. The secure format is expected to offer significant benefits to both candidates and examination bodies.

“The system isn’t just secure,” said Gopalakrishnan, “it’s fundamentally reshaping how we think about transparency in government recruitment.”

With the successful rollout already underway, many see this model as a prototype for what future examinations in India may soon look like—fair, fast, and fraud-resistant.
