Indore, September 5: An Air India Express flight from Delhi to Indore with 161 passengers on board encountered a mid-air engine fault on Friday, prompting the pilot to issue a ‘PAN-PAN’ call. The aircraft landed safely at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport with a delay of 20 minutes, officials said.

“After receiving information about a technical fault in one of the engines of the Air India Express plane coming from Delhi to Indore, we took all precautions. The aircraft landed at Indore airport at 9:55 am; as per the schedule, it was supposed to land at 9:35 am,” Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport Director Vipinkant Seth told PTI.

The crew and all 161 passengers of flight IX 1028 are safe, Seth confirmed. He added that the pilot’s PAN-PAN signal triggered fire and medical arrangements at the airport in accordance with standard operating procedures.

‘PAN-PAN’ is an internationally recognized signal used in aviation and maritime communication to indicate an urgent situation that requires assistance but is not immediately life-threatening. When issued, it alerts air traffic control and ground services that the crew needs immediate support.

Seth said, “All necessary safety measures were taken, and the situation was handled efficiently. Passengers disembarked safely, and normal operations resumed shortly after.”
