New Delhi, Aug 31 — An Indore-bound Air India aircraft returned to Delhi on Sunday morning and made an emergency landing after the cockpit crew received a “fire indication” in the right engine shortly after take-off, the airline said. More than 90 passengers were on board.
The Airbus A320 neo, operating as flight AI2913, took off from Delhi but was airborne for over 30 minutes before the pilot shut down the affected engine and turned back. The plane landed safely at around 6.15 am, according to airport sources.
“Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on August 31, air-returned to Delhi shortly after take-off, as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine,” Air India said in a statement. “Following standard procedure, the cockpit crew elected to shut down the engine and returned to Delhi where the flight landed safely.”
The aircraft has been grounded for inspection. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s air safety regulator, has been informed.
Data from flight-tracking portal Flightradar24 showed the plane remained in the air for more than half an hour before landing back in Delhi.
Air India said passengers were being accommodated on an alternative aircraft to complete their journey to Indore.
