All Schools Shut in Amritsar After Threat Emails

by TheReportingTimes

AMRITSAR, Dec 12 — Authorities ordered the closure of all schools across Amritsar on Friday after bomb threat emails were sent to several private institutions, sparking citywide alarm and rapid evacuations.

Police teams, joined by bomb disposal squads, began combing the affected premises shortly after the emails were reported. The decision to shut down government schools as well came from the deputy commissioner, who directed the district education officer to implement the closure immediately.

“Safety comes first. We are taking every step required,” Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said. He noted that the emails shared “clear similarities” with previous non-credible threats, adding, “People should not panic. Investigations point to the possibility of a hoax.”

Schools asked parents to collect their children at once, leading to heavy traffic outside several campuses.

Officials said the cyber police unit is tracing the sender’s digital footprint and expects early leads, as the format resembles emails used in past student-driven prank attempts.
