AMBALA, May 11 — A wanted criminal was arrested following a brief exchange of fire with the CIA-1 unit of Ambala Police on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Ankush, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the encounter and was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment.

DSP Naraingarh Suraj Chawla said the incident unfolded when a man behaving suspiciously was seen roaming on a two-wheeler in the area. Acting on the alert, the CIA-1 team initiated a search operation.

“When the team attempted to stop him, he opened fire at the police vehicle. In retaliation, our team returned fire and managed to injure and apprehend him near Shahpur,” said DSP Chawla.

According to preliminary findings, Ankush is suspected to be involved in a recent firing incident in Naraingarh. The police have launched a deeper investigation into his criminal background and any links to other cases.

The operation has been seen as a significant breakthrough in tightening law enforcement in the region, especially in light of the recent spate of violent crimes.
