Amritsar Airport Sets New Passenger Traffic Record

by TheReportingTimes

AMRITSAR, May 26— The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport has logged its highest-ever annual and monthly passenger traffic, making the financial year 2024–25 the most successful in the airport’s history, according to newly released figures by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

A total of 3.54 million passengers (35,42,880) travelled through the airport during the year, marking a 14.8% rise over the 3.08 million (30,85,598) recorded in 2023–24. The numbers include both domestic and international passengers, underlining the airport’s status as Punjab’s premier aviation hub.

In March 2025 alone, the airport handled a record 343,384 passengers, consisting of 231,756 domestic and 111,628 international travellers. This reflects an 8.5% increase from 316,495 passengers in March last year. Domestic traffic grew by 6.6%, while international traffic surged by 12.8% year-on-year.

The March tally broke the previous monthly record set in December 2024, when 231,699 domestic and 340,408 total passengers passed through the airport.

Despite the rise in passenger numbers, domestic aircraft movements declined by 3.8%, dropping from 1,487 in March 2024 to 1,430 in March 2025, suggesting better aircraft utilisation and higher passenger loads per flight.

Sameep Singh Gumtala, global convener of the FlyAmritsar Initiative, remarked, “This suggests higher passenger loads per flight, reflecting increased operational efficiency on domestic routes. This is a proud moment for Amritsar Airport and the region.”

With both annual and monthly records surpassed, the airport’s performance highlights its growing role in regional connectivity and international outreach.
