Patiala, October 29: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday urged Punjab Police officers to maintain integrity in their duties, saying that greed could never be quenched “even with bags full of cash.”
Addressing the launch of a six-day investigator training programme at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Mann said corruption had no place in public service. “Some people forget that they will have to pay the price of their deeds,” he noted, urging personnel to stay committed to fair investigation practices.
Referring indirectly to suspended Ropar Range DIG H.S. Bhullar’s recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation on corruption charges, the Chief Minister said the actions of “a few black sheep” tarnish the image of the entire department. “The greed of one officer can shake public confidence built over years of service,” he remarked.
The comments follow Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s criticism of the state government over Bhullar’s arrest, terming it “unfortunate” and pointing out that it exposed gaps in administrative oversight. The Governor had observed that the recovery of large sums of cash and valuables “calls for serious introspection.”
Mann said that his government was determined to create a culture of transparency and professionalism in policing. “Honesty should be the badge every officer wears with pride,” he told the gathering.
Minister Balbir Singh and Vice-Chancellor Jai Shankar Singh were also present during the event.
