Chandigarh, March 18 — Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday condemned the Punjab Police’s arrest of farm union leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, calling it a betrayal of the farming community.
Bajwa termed the arrests a “cowardly act” by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government. “It has never happened in the history of Punjab that the government lured leaders for a meeting and then arrested them. This is against Punjab’s tradition,” he said.
The senior Congress leader accused chief minister Bhagwant Mann of acting on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) directions.
“There is no doubt left that CM Mann is working as a puppet for the BJP-led Union government. Punjabis will never forgive him for this shameful act,” Bajwa said.
He alleged that the arrests exposed the AAP’s alliance with the BJP. “I’ve said this before, and I’ll repeat it: the AAP and BJP are two sides of the same coin. Their true agenda in Punjab has once again been unmasked,” he added.
