Bathinda, Feb 15: Bathinda law enforcement officials confirmed the arrest of two individuals on Sunday following the recovery of 6.5 kg of opium from a vehicle on the Bathinda-Badal road. The seizure occurred during a strategic operation near Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, where officers intercepted a car traveling from the Dabwali side. Initial inspections of the vehicle led to the discovery of 4 kg of the contraband, resulting in the immediate detention of the occupants.
The suspects have been identified as Jagsir Singh, alias Sira, from Mansa, and Mohinder Singh, a resident of Jassi Pauwali village. Bathinda City SP Narinder Singh maintained that a subsequent interrogation of Jagsir Singh led to the recovery of an additional 2.5 kg of opium. The SP asserted that the primary suspect, Sira, is a repeat offender currently out on bail for prior convictions under the NDPS Act.
Officials noted that the accused were produced in court today and have been remanded to three-day police custody for further questioning. Preliminary investigations affirmed that the narcotics were transported into Punjab from Rajasthan. A formal case has been registered at the Canal Colony police station as authorities continue to trace the broader supply chain.
