Bathinda restarts motorcycle patrols to curb street crime

SSP deploys 70 personnel for day and night surveillance

Bathinda, Feb 12: Police in Bathinda have officially brought back two-wheeler patrolling after the initiative remained suspended for nearly twelve months. Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Yadav noted that the revival of the police control room (PCR) motorcycle units is a strategic move to tighten law and order and reduce the city’s crime rate through increased visibility.

The department has assigned approximately 70 police personnel to handle the patrolling duties. During daylight hours, 20 motorcycles are active on the city streets, while 16 units continue the watch throughout the night. To ensure balanced operations, each motorcycle is manned by a team consisting of one veteran officer and one newer recruit.

“The primary aim is to control the crime graph. A visible police presence instills fear among miscreants and helps curb crime,” SSP Jyoti Yadav directly said. She mentioned that the project resumed roughly three weeks ago and has already shown encouraging results in maintaining public safety.

While the program had initially been introduced two years ago to address snatching and theft, it had gradually phased out. Authorities noted that the presence of these mobile units is particularly effective in navigating narrow streets where traditional four-wheeler patrols might face limitations.
