New Delhi, Sept 29: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs 21 crore for the Indian cricket team and its support staff following their dominant performance in the Asia Cup in Dubai.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the award recognises the team’s extraordinary achievements in the tournament, which saw India defeat arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets in the final on Sunday. “It was an extraordinary victory; therefore, as part of the celebrations, the BCCI has announced a cash award of Rs 21 crore in favour of the players and the support staff who are part of the Indian team in the Asia Cup,” Saikia said. He did not, however, disclose the exact break-up of the fund.

Saikia described the cash prize as a significant recognition for the team, the Board, and cricket fans across India. “That money will be distributed, and this is a big reward for our team and the Indian cricket board as well as the people of India. We are extremely proud of our cricketers and the support staff for their superb performance in Dubai,” he added.

The BCCI also shared the announcement on social media, celebrating India’s unbeaten streak against Pakistan. “Three blows. 0 response. Asia Cup Champions. Rs 21 crores prize money for the team and support staff,” the post stated.
