Faridkot, Jan 30: Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) has been granted full authority over four key health facilities to bolster medical education and research across the region. The transfer, formalized through a notification by Kumar Rahul, Principal Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, allows the university to utilize these centers for clinical training and new academic programs.

The Civil Hospitals at Badal and Sri Khadur Sahib, along with the Community Health Centre in Jalalabad and the Tertiary Cancer Care Centre in Fazilka, are the primary sites included in this transfer. The university is now empowered to manage these sites as extensions of its academic mission while providing specialized care to the local population.

“The BFUHS is permitted to use these facilities for medical education, research and to start new courses,” the directive mentioned.

The transition includes a structured plan for the existing workforce. While the university builds its own team of doctors and staff, the state-employed personnel currently at these locations will be integrated back into the Department of Health and Family Welfare’s broader pool. This ensures that the career progression and seniority of the original staff members are preserved despite the change in facility management.

The university is expected to maintain high standards of public service, ensuring that user charges do not exceed state-mandated levels. The directive clarifies that the primary goal is to enhance the quality of care through university expertise without increasing the financial burden on the public.

“User charges must also align with existing state government patterns,” the orders directly said.

To support the continuity of public health goals, the state government confirmed it will maintain its financial commitment to essential welfare schemes. This ensures that while the university manages the infrastructure and personnel, the broader social safety nets for healthcare remain robust and fully funded by the central and state administrations.
