Mohali, April 23: A security guard was robbed of his motorcycle at gunpoint near Chawla Chowk in Mohali on Monday evening, police said.

The vehicle was recovered from Kharar within 24 hours, though the assailants remain at large.

Pargat Singh, a resident of Kumbra village and an employee at an industrial unit in Phase 7, told police he was waiting near Chawla Chowk around 7:50 pm to pick up his sister when two men on a motorcycle approached him. “The rider asked for directions to the Phase 3B2 market, and while I was responding, the pillion rider pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot,” Singh said in his complaint. Fearing for his life, he handed over his bike, which the armed man then rode away.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Prithvi Singh Chahal said a distress call was received on emergency helpline 112 around 8 pm. A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, and CCTV footage from nearby areas was scanned.

“We traced the stolen motorcycle to Kharar by Tuesday evening and recovered it. The search for the suspects is ongoing,” said Chahal.

An FIR has been lodged under Sections 309(4) (robbery) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.
