BJP Seeks ECI Action Against Congress Leaders for Religious Symbol Misuse

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, November 7: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against Punjab Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and Congress candidate Karanvir Burj, alleging the leaders disrespected Sikh religious symbols during their Tarn Taran bypoll campaign.

Chugh pointed to a banner displayed at a public meeting showing Baba Jeevan Singh Ji, the Sikh warrior who carried the head of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, alongside six Congress leaders. “This is a deliberate act of politicising religion, violating the Model Code of Conduct and Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951,” he said.

He urged the ECI to issue a show-cause notice and bar both leaders from campaigning further in the constituency. Chugh also called on the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer to conduct an urgent investigation and register cases against Bajwa and Burj.

Chugh stressed that protecting religious sanctity in electoral processes is essential and warned against the misuse of sacred symbols for political gain.
