SHILLAI, 26 Sept — The bodies of two brothers, Kamlesh and Rajneesh of Gwali village in Shillai constituency, were recovered from the Yamuna River on Thursday, ending a four-day search that had left the local community gripped by anxiety and grief.
The siblings went missing on Tuesday along with their friend Amit, when the three were swept away by strong river currents near Paonta Sahib. Amit’s body had surfaced on September 24 in Haryana’s Kalesar area, nearly 10 km from the site, while the brothers’ whereabouts remained unknown until Thursday.
Kamlesh’s body was discovered in Haryana’s Yamunanagar region, and Rajneesh’s was found near the Hathnikund Barrage. Paonta Sahib DSP Manvendra Singh Thakur confirmed both recoveries, noting that legal formalities are underway. The brothers are expected to be cremated at the Yamuna Ghat, the very spot where they were last seen.
Industries, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour and Employment Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan visited Gwali village on Thursday morning to console the bereaved families. “The administration has been directed to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said, sharing in their grief.
Dangers posed by the river’s strong currents has left families and local residents calling for greater safety measures along its banks.
