Bomb Hoax Triggers Airport Scare in Bengaluru

by TheReportingTimes

Bengaluru, June 19: The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru was thrown into high-security mode early Thursday following a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax, police officials confirmed.

According to authorities, an email received late Wednesday night—allegedly sent by a terrorist group—claimed that two explosive devices had been planted on airport premises. The message was unusually detailed, describing a dual-attack plan: one bomb labelled as “Plan A” and a second backup explosive, “Plan B,” meant to detonate if the first failed. The email also claimed that one of the devices was hidden inside a pipeline in an airport restroom.

A full-scale emergency sweep of the facility was carried out by security personnel and bomb detection teams. Every corner of the terminal, including restrooms, pipelines, and passenger areas, was thoroughly checked. By Thursday morning, officials confirmed that no explosives were found, declaring the threat baseless.

“It was a false alarm, but given the specificity of the message, we couldn’t take any chances,” a senior police official said.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the origin of the email. “We are tracking the digital trail of the sender and have taken steps to identify the IP addresses and accounts involved,” said the officer.

This isn’t the first time KIA has been the target of such hoaxes. The airport and other public locations in Bengaluru—including schools—have witnessed several false bomb threats in recent years, causing disruption and public concern.

Authorities reiterated that while the latest scare was unfounded, all threats are treated with the utmost seriousness to ensure public safety.
