Rohtak, Nov 21: Rohtak police on Thursday night arrested four suspects in the killing of Sapna, 23, in what investigators believe was an honour-motivated attack carried out at her in-laws’ home. The arrests followed an encounter on the Ladhot–Bohar road in which all four men suffered bullet injuries in their legs and were admitted to PGIMS under police guard.
Those arrested were identified as Sanju, the victim’s brother, and Rahul, both residents of Kahni village; along with Ankit alias Baba and Gaurav, from Rukhi village of Sonepat district. Officers said they recovered four pistols, 10 cartridges, two magazines and a motorcycle from the group.
Police said Sapna was shot dead on Wednesday night by Sanju and the three others. Her brother-in-law, Sahil, suffered injuries while attempting to intervene. Investigators noted that the attack was believed to be rooted in family resentment over her marriage.
“Sanju was furious that Sapna had married a man from the same village more than three years ago despite opposition from the family,” a police official said. Authorities stated that this anger had been documented during the inquiry and formed the primary motive for the assault.
Officers said the suspects attempted to flee but were intercepted as part of search operations launched after the killing. “They fired at the police team and were injured in retaliatory fire,” an officer said. “This led to their arrest and the seizure of weapons used in the crime.”
