BSF, Punjab Police Foil Smuggling Bid Near Amritsar Border

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, October 10 — Against cross-border smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered large consignments of heroin, methamphetamine (ICE drug), opium, and ammunition in two separate operations along the Amritsar border, officials said on Friday.

The joint operations were conducted on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, underscoring the vigilance and rapid coordination between the BSF and Punjab Police in curbing drug trafficking across the India-Pakistan border.

According to a BSF spokesperson, the first operation was carried out on Thursday evening after troops detected suspicious drone movement near Bhaini Rajputana village. Acting swiftly, BSF personnel, along with Amritsar Rural Police, recovered a packet containing three plastic boxes filled with methamphetamine weighing 3.049 kg from agricultural fields in the area.

In a separate midnight operation near village Attari, the BSF and Punjab Police recovered three large packets containing 15 smaller packets of heroin weighing 7.985 kg, 290 grams of opium, and 34 live rounds of ammunition from farmland close to the International Border.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared details of the seizures on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that an FIR has been registered at Gharinda Police Station. “Technical investigations are underway to trace the network and identify the smugglers behind the consignment,” he said.

A BSF spokesperson said the back-to-back recoveries reflect the force’s unwavering commitment to blocking drug smuggling routes and countering attempts by Pakistan-based narco-terror syndicates to destabilise Punjab and other parts of the country.

Further investigation is underway jointly by the BSF, Punjab Police, and other law enforcement agencies to identify those involved in the trans-border smuggling network.
