BSF Seizes 7.4 Kg ICE Dropped by Drone from Pakistan

by TheReportingTimes

Amritsar, June 20: In a substantial anti-drug operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered over 7.4 kg of ICE (Methamphetamine), a synthetic party drug, that was air-dropped from Pakistan using a drone. The contraband, valued in crores in the international market, was seized early Friday from agricultural fields near Mode village in Amritsar district.

Acting on specific intelligence, BSF troops launched a late-night search operation. Around 2:30 am, they detected and neutralised the drone, which was later found entangled in the fields with a large black bag attached.

“At about 02:30 am, a thorough search of the suspected dropping zone led to the recovery of one assembled drone along with a big black coloured bag tied to it,” the BSF said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Upon opening, seven packets of ICE (Methamphetamine), having a gross weight of 7.470 kg, were found.”

The drone and the illicit cargo were recovered from an irrigated farmland close to the border.

A senior police official noted that Methamphetamine, popularly known as ICE, is a high-end synthetic stimulant typically consumed in urban party circuits. “There’s hardly any local demand in Punjab. It’s largely used as a transit route to supply these drugs to metro cities or abroad,” the official said.

The incident marks yet another instance of cross-border drug trafficking using drone technology, a growing challenge for security forces along the Punjab border. Investigations are underway to trace the intended recipients and the broader network behind the smuggling attempt.
