BSF shoots down four Pak drones in 24 hours

Amritsar, Dec 7: The Border Security Force shot down four Pakistani drones and recovered more than 2 kg of heroin in a series of operations along the India–Pakistan border in Punjab over the past 24 hours, officials said on Saturday. The seizures were made in Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Amritsar districts during intelligence-led searches launched after multiple drone intrusions were detected overnight.

The first operation began early Friday when BSF teams acted on specific inputs and searched farmland near Sankatra village in Ferozepur, where they recovered a heroin packet weighing 1.173 kg. A follow-up sweep near Pachharian village later yielded a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone, believed to have been used for the drop.

Later that evening in Tarn Taran, BSF personnel activated technical counter-measures to neutralise another cross-border drone attempt. A search in agricultural fields near Dal village led to the recovery of a DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone along with 543 grams of heroin.

A fourth drone was recovered on Saturday during an intelligence-driven operation near Roranwala Kalan village in Amritsar. Officials said the DJI Mavic 3 Pro was likely brought down by anti-drone systems deployed along the frontier.

A senior BSF officer said the recoveries underline the force’s heightened vigilance as drone-based smuggling attempts continue. “Our technical grid and ground teams are working in close coordination. Every intrusion is met with an immediate response,” the officer said.

Officials added that all seizures have been handed over to investigative agencies and further inquiry is underway to establish supply chains across the border.
