CALGARY, FEB 24: Calgary authorities are investigating a weekend shooting at the residence of Lovjeet Sandhu, a man of Punjabi origin, in the Savanna Park area. The incident is being treated as part of a potential string of extortion-related crimes targeting the local South Asian community.

Digital footage circulating online appears to show multiple rounds of gunfire directed at the home. While Calgary Police confirmed that shots were fired, officials stated that no specific details regarding injuries or the extent of property damage have been released at this stage. The suspects reportedly fled the scene immediately following the discharge of weapons.

In the aftermath of the attack, a social media post allegedly connected to Aarzoo Bishnoi began to circulate, claiming responsibility for the shooting. The digital message mentioned associates purportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi group and issued warnings to rival factions.

According to reports from CBC News, law enforcement officials maintained that the investigation is in its early stages. Investigators asserted that extensive forensic work is required before any definitive links to the social media claims can be established.

This targeted attack was one of two shootings reported in northeast Calgary over the weekend. In a separate incident on Sunday, another residence was fired upon before the perpetrators escaped in a white sedan. Police noted that both events may be connected to a broader pattern of violence.

Data provided by the police revealed that at least 28 extortion-related incidents have been documented in the city since the start of 2025. Of those cases, 13 involved the use of firearms.
