Panchkula, March 26 — Panchkula Police registered a case against a group of sand miners for allegedly assaulting and obstructing a police officer attempting to stop illegal mining at the Burj Kotiya river.

The complaint was filed by SI Rajbir Singh, in charge of the Amaravati police post. According to Singh, he was en route to his post when he received information about illegal mining at the river. Upon reaching the site in his personal vehicle, he saw a man later identified as Poli signaling others involved in the activity.

When Singh tried to intercept the trollies, Poli, along with Shera, Gajni, and two unidentified men, blocked his path with motorcycles. Armed with sticks, they allegedly threatened, verbally abused, and physically assaulted him.

Singh called for backup from the Amaravati police post, but the group further obstructed his vehicle near the Chandimandir traffic light before fleeing.

Police have launched a search operation to arrest Poli, his two sons, Gajni, Shera, and others involved, including Hanif, Shakil, and 10 unidentified individuals.

A case has been registered under Sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant), 126 (wrongful restraint), 132 (assault on a public servant), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation with threats of death or grievous harm) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
