Chandigarh, Jan 16: The CBI Court has demanded a justification from the Central Bureau of Investigation regarding the freezing of nearly a dozen bank accounts linked to the family of suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. The order follows an application by the officer alleging that the agency overstepped its authority during a recent investigation.
Legal representatives for the officer argued that the accounts in question belong to his daughter and his elderly father, rather than the accused himself. They noted that the father, a retired high-ranking police official and veteran, relies on these funds for his daily livelihood.
“The bank accounts were not required for any purpose in the trap case and were not included in the final investigation report,” the defense counsel directly said.
The application maintains that the agency failed to follow proper legal protocols, as no court order was secured before the accounts were rendered inaccessible. With the challan already submitted in December, the defense argues that the continued restriction on the family’s independent income sources lacks any legal basis.
