Chandigarh, July 19: The federal government’s approach to Punjab’s economic and agrarian needs came under renewed scrutiny following a recent executive tour that omitted solutions for the state’s withheld developmental funds. Local representatives expressed disappointment that the visit prioritized administrative finger-pointing over addressing key regional concerns, including agricultural support systems and financial allocations.
The discussion focused heavily on past joint administrations, with current state officials pointing out that previous governance models had left lingering structural deficits that the current setup is working to fix.
The state administration noted that the prolonged delay in resolving the grievances of agricultural communities continues to impact rural stability across the plains.
“Why did the Prime Minister fail to respond to the deaths of hundreds of farmers during the farmers’ movement?” Baltej Pannu asked in an official statement. He affirmed that the lack of progress on a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price remains a vital concern for the farming sector, adding, “Why is the Union Government continuing to withhold Punjab’s rightful funds?”
The dialogue underscored the ongoing tension between regional aspirations and central fiscal management, with state voices calling for a more cooperative approach to federalism.
“The people have already given them opportunities multiple times,” Pannu declared, referencing historical legislative terms from previous decades. He maintained that the electorate is focusing on measurable outcomes rather than political framing, stating, “People of Punjab are fully aware of the BJP’s track record and will not be misled by slogans and political propaganda.”
