Chandigarh F&CC Clears Key Civic Projects

Chandigarh, July 25: The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Thursday approved a series of civic improvement projects focused on infrastructure upgrades, public safety, and sanitation.

The meeting, chaired by Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, sanctioned the repair and repainting of the Night Shelter in Sector 26—used primarily by truck drivers—as part of ongoing efforts to improve urban welfare facilities. The committee also approved the construction of four new rain shelters within the truck parking zone to provide respite for visitors during the monsoon.

In a move to bolster security, the F&CC gave its nod to the installation of concertina fencing along the boundary wall of the Idle Truck Parking area in Sector 26. The fencing work has been allocated a budget of ₹48.17 lakh.

Sanitation infrastructure also received a boost with the committee approving the hiring of a chain dozer for one year, at an estimated cost of ₹33.72 lakh, for operations at the city’s dumping ground.

The meeting was attended by MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, Special Commissioner Pardeep Kumar, and councillors Suman Devi, Saurabh Joshi, Gurpreet Singh, and Jasmanpreet Singh.

Deliberating on persistent civic issues, the committee also took up the problem of stray cattle, especially in the city’s southern sectors. “We must find humane and lasting solutions to the stray cattle menace,” Mayor Babla said during the discussions.
