Chandigarh, August 24: The Hero Asia Cup 2025 trophy was unveiled in Chandigarh on Saturday, ahead of the tournament scheduled to be held in Rajgir, Bihar, from August 29 to September 7.

The 12th edition of the Asia Cup will feature eight teams, with India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, China, and Malaysia already confirmed. The remaining two teams will qualify through the AHF Cup. Matches will take place at the newly constructed hockey stadium in Rajgir.

Actor Jimmy Shergill and Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang attended the unveiling ceremony. Shergill said hockey was “a heritage deeply tied to our national sporting spirit,” adding that the tournament would inspire youth to pursue the sport. Kang said hosting the Asia Cup was a matter of pride for India, calling it “an event that not only celebrates hockey but also promotes unity and brotherhood.”

The Chandigarh event was organised by Hockey Chandigarh. Its president, Karan Gilhotra, described the city as the “nursery of Indian hockey,” noting that the Asia Cup would encourage the next generation of players. Senior vice-president Pushvinderjit Singh and vice-president Anil Vohra also joined the ceremony.

Officials said the Asia Cup remains one of the biggest events in international hockey, providing both prestige and a pathway to global competitions. With India as host, the Rajgir tournament is expected to draw large crowds and international attention.
