CHANDIGARH, August 5 — Members of the District Bar Association, Chandigarh, abstained from work on Monday to protest the death of advocate Lakhwinder Singh, a member of the Amritsar Bar Association, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a recent attack.

Ashok Chauhan, president of the Chandigarh Bar Association, said the decision to observe a ‘No Work Day’ was taken unanimously during a meeting of the association’s executive body, following a statewide call by the Amritsar Bar Association.

“We express our deep sorrow at the untimely demise of our colleague and stand in full solidarity with the lawyers of Amritsar,” Chauhan said. He added that the association strongly condemned the brutal assault and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits responsible.

The bar members stayed away from courts throughout the day as a mark of respect and protest.
