Kullu, July 17 — A 33-year-old pilgrim from Chandigarh died while returning from the 18,570-foot-high Shrikhand Mahadev temple in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district. The deceased has been identified as Abhay, a resident of Sector 15-D.

According to police officials, Abhay had started the Shrikhand Yatra on July 12 along with his cousin. His health deteriorated during the descent near Parvati Bagh, a challenging segment of the route known for its steep and treacherous terrain.

Rescue teams stationed along the route responded quickly, carrying Abhay to Bhimdwari, where his condition reportedly showed slight improvement. From there, he was brought down to the Singhgad base camp in a palanquin, but he collapsed again en route to Jaon and could not be revived.

“The body will be handed over to the family after post-mortem,” said DSP Anni Chandrashekhar, confirming the incident.

The Shrikhand Yatra is known for its high-altitude trekking and spiritual significance, but authorities have repeatedly advised pilgrims to be cautious due to the extreme physical demands and rapidly changing weather conditions.
