Chandigarh Sealed Overnight in Security Drill

by TheReportingTimes

CHANDIGARH, July 10 — Amid heightened security concerns, Chandigarh Police launched a large-scale overnight security operation on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, sealing the city as part of a law enforcement drill named ‘Operation Seal’.

Led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur, the operation mobilized 320 police personnel, including all Superintendents of Police (SPs), Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), and Station House Officers (SHOs). The city was brought under a security blanket with 80 nakas (checkpoints) strategically placed across internal areas and border zones.

“In total, 641 vehicles were checked during the night. Twenty-three were challaned and four impounded for various violations,” SSP Kaur stated. “This operation was not only about enforcement but also about assessing the police force’s preparedness and boosting public confidence.”

The Union Territory, which shares borders with Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, was put on high alert as Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and commando units were stationed at sensitive points, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

“All SDPOs, SHOs, and police post in-charges were on the ground along with 320 personnel from the non-gazetted ranks. Long-range weapons and supportive logistics were provided at each naka,” the SSP said.

The city’s outer perimeter was reinforced with 18 border nakas, while 62 internal points were simultaneously monitored. Fifty Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles and motorcycles conducted patrolling duties to cover more ground during the hours-long sweep.

According to police, the drive focused on intercepting suspicious individuals, monitoring high-risk vehicles, and scanning for illegal or threatening materials. “The aim was to reinforce law and order and ensure that any potential threats could be swiftly contained,” SSP Kaur added.

The coordinated effort comes as part of the police’s broader strategy to maintain vigilance amid ongoing national and regional security concerns.
