Chandigarh, Sept 21: Senior citizens in Chandigarh can now access all sports complexes under the UT Sports Department for just ₹999 a year, the Administration announced. The one-time annual membership scheme, available to residents aged 60 and above, will allow them to use facilities at nearly 20 sports complexes across the city.
The enrolment will be conducted through the official online portal of the Chandigarh Sports Department (www.sportsdeptt.chd.gov.in). Applicants will need to submit proof of age — such as a PAN card, voter ID, or driving license — along with a recent passport-size photograph and a duly completed form.
Officials said the scheme has been rolled out under the Seva Pakhwada 2025 campaign as part of the Fit India Movement.
“This subsidised membership reflects our Administration’s commitment to ensuring the health, happiness and well-being of our senior citizens,” said Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. “We believe that active living is the foundation of dignity in old age and we are determined to provide elderly persons with facilities at affordable rates. This initiative will not only provide fitness opportunities but also promote community bonding and social engagement.”
Rajiv Verma, Chief Secretary, UT, noted that the Seva Pakhwada initiative is designed to blend fitness with community spirit.
With nearly 20 sports complexes spread across Chandigarh’s sectors, the scheme is expected to encourage more seniors to participate in recreational and fitness activities while fostering stronger neighbourhood connections.
