Chandigarh Shivers at 5°C

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Jan 11: A relentless cold wave swept through the plains of Punjab and Haryana this Sunday, sending temperatures as low as 1.6 degrees Celsius in some districts with Chandigarh, the shared capital, recording a night temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.

The meteorological department confirmed that the minimum temperatures in most cities settled significantly below the season’s average. While Bathinda led the dip in Punjab, Haryana’s Narnaul and Hisar braved “biting cold” at 3 degrees and 2.2 degrees Celsius. Residents also navigated thick morning fog that reduced visibility at multiple locations across the border.

“Several parts of Punjab and Haryana reeled under intense cold conditions on Sunday,” the weather office reported in its morning bulletin.

Ludhiana and Gurdaspur saw the mercury settle at 4.6 and 3.8 degrees Celsius, while Haryana’s Faridabad felt a sharp low of 4.2 degrees. Despite being the urban hub, Chandigarh offered little respite, recording a cold night at 5 degrees Celsius.
