HARIKE, Jan 11 – A tragic incident of suffocation has claimed the lives of a young couple and their infant child in Harike, following the use of a coal fire for heating.

Arshdeep Singh, 20, his wife Jashandeep Kaur, 19, and their one-month-old baby, Gurbaz Singh, were found dead after inhaling smoke generated by charcoal during the night.

A nine-year-old boy, Kishan Singh, was found alive but unconscious at the scene. He was rushed to Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, where medical staff are monitoring him closely.

“His condition is said to be critical,” a source confirmed regarding the young survivor.

Kishan, a resident of Sarhali village, had traveled to Harike yesterday to meet his sister’s family. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, weighing the dangers of using coal fires in poorly ventilated rooms during the winter months.
