Chandigarh, Feb 14: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday cited the recent arrest of a Kalanaur resident as proof of the government’s success in dismantling drug networks. The suspect was reportedly caught by authorities at a local cremation ground, an arrest that the minister claimed further exposes the links between the narcotics trade and the Congress party.
Cheema mentioned that the emergence of photos featuring the accused with prominent Congress figures is a matter of serious concern. He noted that the Akali-BJP and Congress eras were marked by a lack of will to tackle the drug menace, leading to widespread addiction across the state.
“These parties that have been destroying Punjab are crying today because their associates are being held accountable,” the Finance Minister directly said. He mentioned that the systematic crackdown is successfully breaking the supply chains that were established during previous regimes.
According to the Minister, the anti-drug campaign has now become a widespread social caravan, receiving a massive response from the people of Punjab. He noted that the Aam Aadmi Party government remains steadfast in its goal to completely eradicate the substance abuse problem through both strict policing and medical intervention for victims.
“Drug smugglers are either fleeing from Punjab or going inside the jails,” Cheema mentioned. He added that the Bhagwant Singh Mann administration is providing necessary treatment to those caught in the cycle of addiction, ensuring they are reintegrated into society as healthy individuals.
The Minister further mentioned that the transparency of the current campaign has earned the trust of the public, which is why a growing number of people are associating themselves with the government’s efforts to safeguard the future of the state’s youth.
