Amritsar, Feb 4: A specialized team of the Counter Intelligence wing recovered 5 kg of heroin and arrested four men during a targeted operation near the Amritsar-Attari bypass. The suspects, all hailing from the border village of Daoke, were allegedly acting as local handlers for a Pakistan-based narcotics supplier.
The arrested men, Sukhchain Singh, Navdeep Singh, Sukhpal Singh, and Akashdeep Singh, were intercepted while traveling on two motorcycles. Police officials stated the group intended to distribute the contraband within the state after retrieving it from a drone drop site near their home village.
“CI Amritsar received credible information that Sukhchain Singh alias Mani was running a drug smuggling network with the help of his associates,” DGP Gaurav Yadav said. The DGP mentioned the module had recently received the large heroin consignment from across the border and planned to deliver it in the Kala Ghanupur vicinity.
Working on these leads, police teams established a strategic blockade to catch the suspects in transit. The subsequent search of the individuals led to the discovery of the heroin.
“Investigations are being conducted to identify other individuals involved in the racket,” the DGP said. Authorities are currently tracing the communication trail to map out the full extent of the smuggling operation.
