Abohar, December 21, 2024: A disturbance broke out outside a municipal corporation booth in Abohar today when police were forced to lathi-charge a group of individuals attempting to breach the polling station.
Authorities said the individuals refused to comply with police orders, leading to the intervention.
This incident occurred as voting continues across five major municipal corporations in Punjab, including Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, and Phagwara.
Polling began at 7 am, and results are expected to be announced by the end of the day.
By 1 pm, voter turnout had reached 41 percent in the five cities. In Abohar, elections are also taking place for Ward 22, with additional security measures in place. Political leaders from BJP, Akali Dal, and Congress present at the scene have expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements.
DSP Sukhwinder Singh Brar assured that the elections are being held smoothly and without major disruptions.
