Cold conditions grip region despite warmer nights

CHANDIGARH, Jan 3 — Cold weather conditions persisted in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, even as minimum temperatures at many stations stayed above normal levels, the India Meteorological Department said.

Mahendragarh in Haryana recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 4 degrees Celsius.

Elsewhere in Haryana, Ambala reported a minimum of 11.2 degrees Celsius, around four degrees above the normal mark, while Hisar logged 8.1 degrees, two degrees above average. Karnal recorded a low of 9 degrees Celsius.

Rohtak saw its minimum settle at 9.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while Bhiwani, Sirsa and Faridabad recorded 5.8, 9 and 6.3 degrees, respectively.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius, about two degrees above normal.

In Punjab, Faridkot emerged as the coldest place with a minimum temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded a low of 7.5 degrees, four degrees above normal, while Ludhiana registered 9.6 degrees, also higher than average. Patiala recorded 8.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

Pathankot, Bathinda, Gurdaspur and SBS Nagar recorded minimum temperatures of 9.2, 8.2, 8 and 7.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
