Chandigarh, Jan 7: A sharp dip in night temperatures brought biting cold to large parts of Punjab and Haryana on Wednesday, with Narnaul and Bathinda emerging as the coldest locations in the two states.
According to the Meteorological Department, Narnaul recorded a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, the lowest in Haryana, while Bathinda in Punjab reported a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius.
“Night temperatures have fallen due to clear skies and calm wind conditions,” a weather department official said, adding that similar conditions may continue in the coming days.
Bhiwani recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, while Hisar saw the mercury settle at 8.2 degrees. Ambala and Karnal both reported a low of 8.4 degrees Celsius, and Rohtak recorded 8.8 degrees.
In Punjab, Ludhiana recorded a minimum temperature of 6.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Patiala at 7.1 degrees and Amritsar at 7.5 degrees. Gurdaspur reported a low of 5.7 degrees Celsius.
Chandigarh, which serves as the common capital of both states, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists advised residents to take precautions during early morning and late evening hours as cold conditions continue across the region.
