NEW DELHI / CHANDIGARH — Concerns have been raised by the Aam Aadmi Party following police operations at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib, where personnel detained several individuals demonstrating against electoral issues. According to party representatives, the entry of police officers into the sacred site without adhering to customary religious protocols—such as removing footwear and covering their heads—has hurt the feelings of the Sikh community. Party officials asserted that public institutions and law enforcement must exercise care and sensitivity when operating near or within places of worship.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema declared that preserving the dignity of religious centers remains paramount and called for constructive dialogue rather than measures that distress public sentiments. Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur maintained that gurdwaras are traditional spaces of peace and asylum, emphasizing that police high-handedness inside such revered spaces remains deeply concerning to citizens across the region.
AAP Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia and Delhi MLA Jarnail Singh asserted that immediate clarity is needed regarding the circumstances that led to police presence inside the gurdwara. Meanwhile, senior leader Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted reports regarding the aggressive handling of a protester during the operations, maintaining that dignity and restraint must be upheld by police authorities under all circumstances.
