Sangrur, March 29 — Police have booked a constable and his relative for allegedly stealing a tractor-trailer from the Khanauri protest site, officials said.
Sangrur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal confirmed the case, stating that the stolen trailer was traced using Aadhaar card details provided during the vehicle’s release from police impound. “All tractors and trailers were moved to the impound after the protest site was cleared on March 19,” he said.
The case was registered based on a complaint by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Sidhupur) Barnala president Jagjit Singh, a resident of Pakho Kalan village. Singh reported that his trailer, parked at a temporary holding location near the Khanauri border, went missing when he returned to retrieve it on March 21.
Following the complaint, police registered an FIR under sections 303(2) (committing theft) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against constable Varinder and an unidentified accomplice at Patran police station.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Patran Inderpal Chauhan said that Varinder’s uncle, Paramjit Singh, has been arrested. “A manhunt is underway to nab Varinder,” he added.
