PHAGWARA, Apr 19— A couple and their toddler son were killed in a late-night road accident involving an e-rickshaw, a car, and a tractor-trolley near Romi Dhaba on Hoshiarpur Road in Phagwara, police confirmed on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Pappu Yadav, 45, his wife Sunita Yadav, 43, and their one-and-a-half-year-old son. All three were travelling in the e-rickshaw at the time of the accident. A relative, who was also in the vehicle, sustained serious injuries and was referred to a higher medical facility.
“Four injured persons were brought to the Civil Hospital late at night,” said the emergency duty doctor. “Three were declared dead on arrival, and one was referred due to the severity of injuries.”
Rawalpindi Station House Officer (SHO) Major Singh said police received an alert about the multi-vehicle collision and reached the spot immediately. “We inspected the accident site and then moved to Civil Hospital to assess the situation. The deceased were travelling in the e-rickshaw. The injured individual is undergoing treatment,” he said.
The exact cause of the pile-up remains under investigation. Police have initiated proceedings and are examining whether speed, visibility, or mechanical failure contributed to the tragedy.
