Court Acquits Gangster Dilpreet Baba, 4 Others in 2018 Drugs Arms Case

by TheReportingTimes

Mohali, March 26 — A local court acquitted gangster Dilpreet Baba and four others, including two women, in a 2018 drugs, harbouring, and arms case registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Mohali.

The court cleared Harpreet Kaur, Rupinder Kaur, Vipin Kumar, and Arun Kumar alongside Baba, citing lack of evidence. The detailed order is awaited.

The SSOC had accused Baba of supplying drugs and arms to gangsters across Punjab. According to the FIR registered on July 7, 2018, Rupinder Kaur (alias Ruby) and her sister Harpreet Kaur were arrested for harbouring Baba at their homes in Chandigarh and Nawanshahr, respectively. The police alleged that Baba stored drugs and arms at these locations.

Vipin Kumar and Arun Kumar were also booked for aiding Baba in his criminal activities, including extortion. The accused were charged under Sections 212 (harbouring), 216 (harbouring an escaped offender), and 387 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with provisions of the Arms Act and NDPS Act.

However, the court acquitted all five after the police failed to substantiate the charges.
