Mohali, June 7 — A local court on Friday extended the police remand of YouTuber Jasbir Singh by two days, amid ongoing investigations into alleged espionage links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Jasbir, who runs the popular YouTube channel Jaan Mahal with over 1.1 million subscribers, was arrested on June 4 under serious charges related to spying and national security.
Produced in court this afternoon under heavy security, Singh’s three-day remand expired today. The police requested a further seven-day extension to deepen the probe. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a two-day remand instead.
According to officials, Jasbir Singh, a resident of Rupnagar, has made six visits to Pakistan — three of them in recent years (2020, 2021, and 2024) — where he reportedly established direct contact with ISI officials. He is accused of passing sensitive information about the Indian Army to Pakistani intelligence networks.
Police allege that Singh was recruited by Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, a known Pakistani intelligence operative, and became part of a terror-backed espionage network.
One of the key allegations involves Jasbir’s attendance at Pakistan National Day celebrations in Delhi, where he was invited by Danish, an expelled official from the Pakistan High Commission. During the event, Singh is said to have met Pakistani military officers and vloggers.
The case has been registered under Sections 152 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Mohali on June 3.
The investigation also revealed Jasbir’s alleged connection with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, already under arrest on espionage charges. Both are believed to have been in contact with Danish and other PIOs (Pakistani Intelligence Operatives).
Police said Jasbir attempted to wipe all traces of communication with the PIOs following Jyoti’s arrest, allegedly in an effort to avoid detection.
With two more days of remand, authorities are expected to pursue further digital and financial forensics to establish the full extent of Jasbir’s role in the suspected spy ring.
