Court Proceedings Halted After Bomb Threat in Chandigarh

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Dec 26: Court proceedings at the Chandigarh District Court were briefly disrupted on Friday after a bomb threat led to the evacuation of the entire complex, police said.

The threat call was received shortly before noon, triggering immediate security measures. Police personnel asked all those present to vacate the building as a safety precaution.

Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 15 who had come for a hearing, said the evacuation was sudden. “We were waiting when police asked everyone to leave immediately,” he said. Another visitor, Suraj, said he was also directed to exit the premises without delay.

Bomb disposal and security teams searched the court complex for more than two hours but did not find anything suspicious, police officials said.

After the all-clear was given, litigants and advocates were allowed to re-enter the premises and court work resumed.

District Bar Association president Ashok Chauhan said the response was orderly. “There was full cooperation from advocates and court staff during the evacuation,” he said.

Police said an investigation is underway to identify the caller behind the threat.
