Accused in chemist shop firing caught after exchange of fire

by TheReportingTimes

Chandigarh, Jan 21: Two men wanted for a firing incident at a Sector 32 chemist shop were apprehended by the Chandigarh police after an encounter near the Grain Market in Sector 39 on Wednesday. The suspects, Rahul and Rocky, were wounded in the legs during the shootout and are currently undergoing medical treatment at GMCH-16.

A third individual, identified as Preet, was arrested at the scene for allegedly providing transport to the shooters. The confrontation began at dawn when the Crime Branch attempted to intercept a suspicious vehicle. Instead of stopping, the suspects fired at the police, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.

Police representatives mentioned that the officers acted to prevent the escape of the accused. They noted that the retaliatory fire was necessary to subdue the suspects who refused to surrender during the routine check.

“The team intercepted the vehicle based on intelligence, and the arrests were made following a brief encounter,” a police spokesperson directly said.

The case originated from a shooting at Sevak Pharmacy, where the shop owner’s son narrowly avoided injury after two assailants opened fire. Following the incident, the District Crime Branch and forensic experts analyzed the scene, recovering ballistic evidence and scanning local surveillance cameras to track the suspects’ escape route on a scooter.

The investigation has now been widened to look into the involvement of any larger criminal syndicates. Authorities noted that they are also checking for any suspected accomplices within the local network who may have provided logistical support to the shooters.
