CU Ends Ties with Turkish, Azerbaijani Institutions

by TheReportingTimes

Gharuan, May 18 — Chandigarh University (CU) has terminated its academic collaborations with 23 universities in Turkey and Azerbaijan, citing the two countries’ support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.

Announcing the decision on Saturday, Rajya Sabha MP and CU Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu said,

“We have decided to terminate all our educational ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan. I urge Indian students to not pursue their higher education at Turkish and Azerbaijani universities and prefer taking admission in India-friendly nations instead.”

CU officials said the now-cancelled 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) facilitated student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and other academic collaborations.

The move comes after Azerbaijan endorsed Pakistan’s stance amid the India-Pakistan standoff and Turkey expressed solidarity with Islamabad, backing its call for an international investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack.

University authorities emphasized the institution’s commitment to national interest, stating that international partnerships must align with India’s diplomatic and security priorities.
