New Delhi, March 17: Paramjit Singh Sarna, head of the Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has lauded the Iranian administration for ensuring the passage of Indian oil vessels through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Speaking after a meeting with Iranian officials, Sarna affirmed that the safe transit of these tankers is vital for India’s energy security during the current period of regional instability.

The visit to the Iranian Embassy was primarily to convey sympathies regarding the passing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Sarna declared that the delegation’s presence underscored the deep civilizational links between the two countries. He stated that even in difficult war conditions, the gesture of allowing Indian ships to pass reflects a mutual commitment to bilateral cooperation.

“We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Iranian government for giving way to the oil vessels heading towards India,” Sarna asserted. He maintained that diplomatic dialogue remains the most effective way to resolve emerging challenges and voiced hope that the central government would prioritize his requests regarding regional safety.

Sarna also raised concerns about the welfare of Sikhs living in Iran and the protection of their religious sites. He noted that while he appreciates the current cooperation on maritime trade, he has urged Iran to adopt a peaceful stance toward its neighbors to ensure long-term stability in West Asia. The leader affirmed that the Sikh community will continue to advocate for peace and the safety of all Indian nationals currently in the conflict zone.
