Delhi blast sparks terror module probe; Kashmir link eyed

by TheReportingTimes

New Delhi / Pulsating-Kashmir region, Nov 11: A dramatic car explosion outside the Red Fort area of Delhi has unleashed a sweeping investigation into what security officials describe as a “white-collar terror module” with links to Jammu & Kashmir. The car, a Hyundai i20, exploded around 6:52 pm on Monday at a red light near the Red Fort metro station, killing at least eight and injuring about 20.

Investigators have traced the vehicle’s last ownership to Dr Umar Un Nabi of Pulwama, and believe he may have been inside the vehicle at the time of the blast. “He worked with other doctors who were part of the Faridabad module; evidence suggests he panicked when arrests began and triggered the device,” one source told the Hindustan Times.

The Faridabad raids, which recovered some 360 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate and about 2,900 kg of IED-making materials, are now seen as the pre-lude to the Delhi blast. The Jammu & Kashmir Police said the suspect cell had connections to banned outfits including Jaish‑e‑Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat‑ul‑Hind.

The car was seen entering Delhi via the Badarpur border after being re-sold multiple times, one sale linking to a Pulwama resident, officials say.

Central agencies are investigating whether the blast was a planned terror strike or a device detonation triggered prematurely. Delhi Police has registered the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act and relevant murder/attempt-murder provisions.

Meanwhile, authorities have placed major transport hubs across India on high alert. The Home Minister has ordered metro stations, airports, and bus interchanges to intensify screening, and local police say intelligence inputs indicate a possible coordinated threat.
